2011 January Great Gain--Mens Ministry

31 "Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers."
Luke 22:31-32

These verses bring Job to mind. The use of the words sift you as wheat; not the chaff. As followers of Christ you are described as wheat and unbelievers the chaff. In this verse, it is said that Satan asked to sift him like wheat. To try to turn him away from Christ, by deceit, distress, fear of the enemy and of death. Jesus knew that Peter would return. Peter denied he knew Jesus 3 times for fear of his life, and later he gave his life willingly to proclaim the gospel of Jesus after his resurrection. Jesus’ prayer for Peter was that when he returned he would strengthen his brothers. To strengthen is to make stronger; give strength to. It also means to fortify or support. As a verb it can be used to gain strength . So the word to be used this month and remember is GAIN.

Strengthen yourselves and those around you. In verse 46 Jesus said “ Why are you sleeping?”, he said to them, “get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.” Put on the full armor of God, and strengthen your brothers daily.
