2010 November’s Bible Study--Prayer and Thanksgiving
This month’s study is a little different than the typical Thanksgiving theme. Now more than ever we need to learn how to pray. I am posting this a little early to give some of us a head start because of the Holidays’ coming up. There is a verse for each week and a little extra study.
Praying with Thanksgiving
1. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful Colossians 3:15 NIV
2. Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Colossians 4:2 NIV
3. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship, God acceptably with reverence and awe Hebrews 12:28 NIV
4. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6 NIV
For our prayers to be effective, we need to be praying in accordance with God’s will--but also in faith that he can do anything! In Spirit, Truth and with Thanksgiving.
November’s memory verse—Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. Psalms 107:1
“If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.” John 15:7
Listen to John 15 KJV in Audio
Written Exercise—I’d like us to write these down on paper and answer in your best possible way from the heart (Hang on to this paper you write, were going to use it later for a different study). The word “remain” also means to “abide--to remain in”. Here’s a few questions’ to consider.
What exactly does it mean to remain?
What does My Words remain in you mean? Write down all the Words of God that come to your mind and heart (Examples:Names of God-El Shaddai, God, Jesus, The Word, Pieces of scripture even if you don't know the entire verse, John 3:16 as example)
Remember this little acronym; F A C T S about prayer
F=Faith--The belief in the facts and truth of the Scriptures
A=Adoration—intense regard and love
C=Confess--To make acknowledgment or avowal in a matter pertaining to one's self
T=Thanksgiving--The act of rending thanks, or expressing gratitude for favors or mercies
S=Supplication--The act of supplicating; humble and earnest prayer, as in worship
Please feel free to post idea's, testimony, and just share on this board. This is a study so discussion is encouraged.
